GIVE TO SUPPORT MATERNAL WELL-BEING & ECONOMIC MOBILITY

Founded through a grassroots effort to foster a healthy, caring, and well-networked community of diverse Mothering women, Erie City Moms uplifts and champions Mother Figures from all walks of life. We provide free Moms Groups and growth-centered, trauma-informed Mentoring that helps resolve transportation, housing, and health issues, and advance work and life skills—always with dinner and child care. Since 2016, Erie City Moms has built relationships with and advocated on behalf of more than 1,000 Mothers and 3,000 children. When you donate on Erie Gives Day, you help fund Moms Night Out and Mentoring Circles focused on:

  • Building trusted relationships between Mother Figures, mentors, and Motherhood allies

  • Offering opportunities for growth and leadership based on who a Mother is, her life experiences, and what she’s overcoming, not just her status and formal education

  • Educating Mothers in basic life and interpersonal skills that weren’t taught to them in school or by their guardians, including financial literacy, mental health care, and conflict management

  • Breaking down barriers among peer groups and helping create equity and Biblical justice regarding issues of race, culture, gender, ability, economic status, and the impacts of current and generational trauma

  • Providing respite to a population carrying the majority of our community’s child care, domestic, and—specifically for single Moms—financial and physical burdens

  • Tilling the soil for Erie’s Mothers to dream about more for themselves and their children, and walking alongside them until Moms can name that goal, get paired up 1:1 with a Mentor or Good Friend, and achieve that goal!

GIVE TO SUPPORT HOME OWNERSHIP
FOR MOTHERS IN ERIE

The goal of Erie City Moms’ Housing Team expanded in 2022 from helping Moms tackle home safety and quality-of-life issues to bolstering any Mother Figure who aspires to homeownership. Many of our Mothers work hard and dream of owning a home, but can't achieve this goal because they lack knowledge, confidence, and are rent-poor, paying Erie's median rent of $1,055. In 2022, we purchased and began renovating a two-unit residence to be used as a live-in training ground where Mothers will learn financial literacy, home maintenance, and real estate savvy. More than half of Erie City Moms’ members are Black, Hispanic, or biracial--the most underrepresented groups among homeowners. H.O.M.E.: Home Ownership for Mothers in Erie is an economic driver for Erie County—within 24 months, the families will move into homes of their own anywhere in Erie County plus the pilot property, 226 East 10th Street, was revitalized in 16503, one of Erie’s most disinvested neighborhoods. When you give on Erie Gives Day, you help Mother Figures from all walks of life gain the confidence and skills they need and connect to social capital to achieve the dream of homeownership.
