Meet Za’miyha Carson, Peer Advisor and Child Care Lead

Last year, Erie City Moms proudly launched our very first Peer Advisor Training Program—an exciting new leadership initiative that equips member Mother Figures to use their lived experiences, compassion, and gifts to strengthen our community. Through ongoing training in servant leadership, trauma-informed care, communication, confidentiality, and community-building, our Peer Advisors help create welcoming spaces where every Mom can belong, grow, and thrive.

Today, we’re excited to introduce one of those remarkable leaders.

Meet Za’miyha Carson, our Child Care Lead.

Za’miyha has been part of the Erie City Moms community for nearly seven years, first joining us when her son, Amir, was just an infant. Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of watching her grow in confidence, deepen relationships, serve other Mothers, and embrace new opportunities to lead in her home, at work, in the community, and at Erie City Moms despite ongoing personal challenges.

Za’miyha is the youngest member of our inaugural Peer Advisor cohort—her heart was ready and she was eager to lead (she asked repeatedly to serve!). She has a passion for kids and a desire to serve Moms by providing child care, especially helping with kids with unique abilities or a difficult home life. She is a natural leader and teacher and an amazing organizer.

Za’miyha stepped in as our Child Care Lead in Summer 2025. She now oversees a team of 30 volunteers and partners who help create a safe, joyful, and nurturing environment for 80-100 children the first Monday of every month. Kids are loved while their Moms invest in themselves through Mother Matters Mentoring Circles, workshops, a nourishing meal, and community. Za’miyha’s leadership gives Mothers the peace of mind to learn, heal, build friendships, and pursue their goals.

When we invest in Mothers, the impact reaches far beyond one woman. Research shows that strong social support helps reduce maternal isolation, strengthens family well-being, and contributes to healthier outcomes for children and more connected communities—and that’s just the start. In our Mentoring Circles and through our leadership training efforts, Moms are gaining new skills and connecting to social capital that’s changing the trajectory of families and the local economy for generations.

Za’miyha’s journey is exactly why we launched the Peer Advisor Training Program. We believe every Mother has strengths worth developing, wisdom worth sharing, and the ability to become a leader who helps transform the lives of other families EVEN WHILE they are working on themselves.

Many thanks to Za’miyha for serving with kindness, humility, and creativity, and always bringing her big, beautiful smile to Erie City Moms. Special thanks to our buddy Amir who helps at every meeting, set-up Sunday, Mentoring Circle, and Moms Night Out—he is an the MVP! We are grateful to have your family helping build a stronger Erie—one relationship at a time.
